If you want to learn more about peanuts, this is the place to be. This organization, based in Georgia, helps the 7,000 US peanut farmers improve their production practices and promotes peanut products. Recipes, information on allergies, peanut facts and peanut plant information abounds. Georgia is the state that grows the most peanuts - 46% of the US crop to be exact. Florida, Alabama and Texas add another 23%. Here's a fun fact - it takes about 45 peanuts to make an ounce of peanut butter - so that 16 ounce jar contains about 720 peanuts!

AMERICAN PEANUT COUNCIL
This trade organization, located in Virginia just outside Washington DC, represents the interests of various segments in the peanut industry - the growers, shellers, brokers, exporters, processors and suppliers, and maintains close working relationships with government agencies, researchers and the agricultural trade. While there is some consumer info available, like recipes, the site is best used for industry information. They are a supporter of Peanut Proud (peanutproud.com) and Peanut Butter For The Hungry (pb4h.org) - organizations which donate donate butter to combat hunger. Buy a "Peanut Envy" T-shirt and support the cause.

THE PEANUT INSTITUTE
This non-profit organization supports nutrition research and develops educational programs to encourage healthful lifestyles that include peanuts and peanut products. Visit their "Peanut Powered" recipes and peanut facts page at PeanutPower.org. Located in Albany, Georgia - the state that grows about 42% of all US grown peanuts.
